Creating cybersecurity opportunities for all New Yorkers

Although there is an urgent and rising need for cybersecurity talent in a growing digital economy increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks, there remains an acute talent gap in the industry. The world is on track to have 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity positions. In New York City, cybersecurity is the highest-priority area for new hires with 20,000 unfilled positions in the metro area alone.

A major part of Cyber NYC's mission is the cultivation of new talent, creating opportunities in cybersecurity for all New Yorkers. Cyber jobs, with average starting salaries of $85K, represent a great opportunity to broaden access to good-paying careers for traditionally underrepresented and underserved New Yorkers—setting a new standard as we create the most diverse tech ecosystem in the world.

Whether you’re a cybersecurity professional looking to take your career to the next level, are planning to make a mid-career transition, or seeking to get your start in this growing field, Cyber NYC has the workforce development programs to empower you to achieve your goals.

Partnering with CUNY, Driving Upward Mobility

Our programs with CUNY engage a diverse population of students, as we train and develop the next generation of top cybersecurity practitioners.

The Tech-in-Residence Cyber Corps (Undergraduate Program)

Operated by CUNY and SBS
Training cybersecurity industry professionals to teach as adjuncts, placing them in the classroom to instruct students and to help develop and update existing curricula to be industry-aligned. The project is part of an effort to double the number of CUNY students graduating annually with a tech-related bachelor's degree by 2022. It is vital to aligning academia with employer needs and filling the talent gap in cybersecurity.

Enhancing Existing Skills, Creating New Opportunities

A recent Tech:NYC – Accenture report found that in NYC, senior- and mid-level talent is the most difficult to attract. To that end, we want to ensure that, in an ever-changing world, we allow New Yorkers to continually upskill, stay ahead of the curve, and remain on the cutting edge throughout their careers.

Stackable Credentials Program

Operated by NYU - This program is not currently active
A program that provided life-long learning and stackable credentialing through one-month, self-paced, industry-crafted online modules focused on cybersecurity topics. Micro-credentialing is an approach to professional education in which people have the opportunity to participate—at various points in their lives, at their own pace— in coursework that is tailored to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

Retraining New Yorkers, Expanding the Talent Pool

We’re working to ensure that anyone—whether a recent high school graduate, a parent looking to re-enter the workforce, or a longtime professional who wants to switch careers—has an opportunity to enter this growing field. We’re retraining New Yorkers of all backgrounds, giving them the tools to begin new careers in cybersecurity.

Cyber NYC Fullstack Graduation

Cyber NYC & Fullstack Academy: Building New York City’s Cybersecurity Workforce

The Fullstack Cyber Bootcamp

Operated by Fullstack Academy
Launching a diverse group of New Yorkers into careers in cybersecurity. There’s no higher education requirement—just a high-school diploma and the “grit” required to succeed in the program. The bootcamp combines technical cybersecurity skills training and hands-on experience in simulated cyberattacks with professional development like resume help, networking guidance, and an exclusive in-house job fair for students.

After my four years of college, I didn’t have the hands-on experience that I got after four months in this program. It’s great to be actually doing what they’re teaching you.
